What Is a Specialist Residential Home and How Can It Help You?

When you’re caring for an adult with special needs, whether physical, mental or emotional, it can be a difficult and lonely existence. Not everyone is able to commit to the time and patience involved in an individual’s specialist needs, which is why a specialist residential home can be such a great benefit.

Accepting Your Limitations

Looking after an adult with complex needs can be exhausting not just for you but also for other family members. No matter how much you care for your loved one, coping with challenging behaviour requires endless reserves of tact and patience, which aren’t always easy to come by when you’re also trying to cope with day-to-day problems.

Perhaps you also work or have other family members to care for or have a business to run. Or maybe you’ve simply run out of energy and feel unable to tackle the daily challenges that life is bringing you. Whatever the reasons you’re struggling to cope with, you’re almost certain to feel a degree of guilt about the decisions that you are making. But there’s really no need to feel any sense of shame about considering residential care for your loved one – once you’ve learned all the facts, you’re likely to view a place in a residential home with new eyes.

How a Residential Home Can Help

Throughout our residential homes our services are specifically aimed at providing specialised support for adults with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour, we employ dedicated staff who are absolutely committed to promoting positive outcomes for all of our residents.

We provide a choice of specialist residential homes throughout London and the Home Counties, all of which offer unique benefits to their residents. Your much-loved family member will have their own room, with shared communal areas, such as lounges, kitchens, and gardens which give them a safe space to interact with their peers and members of the staffing team.

Your loved one will be encouraged to take care of themselves and their belongings while receiving the necessary support, attention and one-to-one time from our staff teams of therapeutic and support workers. This encourages all of our residents to live their best possible lives, learning how to cope with daily chores and routines and helping to foster the necessary life skills that will hold them in good stead in becoming more independent throughout their lives.

Our accommodation varies from en-suite bedrooms to studio flats and even self-contained apartments for those who are able to function more independently. We also offer segregated buildings for male and female residents at our residential home in Kent for those who are reluctant, or unwilling, to live in mixed housing service.

So whether you’re interested in finding out more about our residential homes in Kent or one of the other care homes that we run in and around the Home Counties, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re always delighted to talk to potential service users and their families, enabling them to find out more about the support and services that we offer.
