Claire* is one of the people supported at Birchwood House in Newham. With the help of our speech and language team, her communication skills have recently been on an upward trajectory.
Claire was having a difficult time with some challenging behaviours, and feeling isolated from the social environment at Birchwood as a result. Our in-house therapy teams were brought in to come up with a support plan that would help Claire work through these difficulties.
Both the support team at Birchwood & our specialist support teams worked together to develop a plan that would allow Claire to regain some independence. Her home was able to implement a new communication tool, called TalkingMats. It has proven to be successful for Claire, and she is now able to express her emotions and feelings with her support team.
