We’re incredibly proud to share Harry’s inspiring story of building independence with Liaise at Oakdene House. With encouragement from his family and consistent guidance from our team, Harry has embraced new opportunities and grown in confidence, capability, and connection.
A New Chapter Begins
When Harry first arrived at Oakdene House, he brought curiosity and a willingness to learn. The supportive environment and structured routines gave him a strong foundation to develop new life skills and grow his confidence across everyday activities.
Discovering Passions: Art, Activities, and More
Harry’s interests led him to explore art, crafts, and pottery. When a traditional college environment proved challenging, our staff worked with him to find a great fit: Smerdon Day Centre. It was an instant success! Harry now attends weekly, creating beautiful pieces of art that fill him with pride and accomplishment.
Beyond art, Harry enjoys a variety of activities that keep him active and engaged. Swimming, bowling, cinema trips, and shopping are all regular parts of his schedule. Sailing has become a particular highlight, offering outdoor connection, skill development, and a real sense of freedom on the water.
Mastering Independence: Life Skills and Confidence
One of Harry’s most significant achievements has been developing his financial independence. What was once a daunting task is now a skill he handles confidently. Working closely with staff, Harry plans his shopping trips, manages his budget, and sticks to his goals, a real milestone in building independence with Liaise.
At Oakdene House, Harry has also embraced opportunities to build key life skills. He now makes his own breakfast and takes pride in keeping his room clean and tidy. These everyday steps are incredibly meaningful and reflect his growing self‑reliance.
Cherishing Family and Daily Life
Harry’s close relationship with his family remains an important part of his happiness. He loves visiting them and spending holidays together, creating treasured memories and strengthening bonds that support his wellbeing.
