At Liaise, keyworkers play an important role in helping the people we support feel listened to, understood and involved in decisions about their lives.
In the video below, our Influencers Thomas and Rachel sit down with their keyworkers during a meeting at our Head Office to talk about why keyworkers are important to them and how these relationships positively impact their daily lives.
Throughout the conversation, Thomas and Rachel shared how keyworkers help them feel safe, supported and listened to. They spoke about the importance of having someone who is easy to talk to and who takes time to understand their interests, goals and preferences.
Shared interests were a big part of the discussion, including conversations about football, wrestling, bowling, shopping and visits to the arcade. These everyday conversations help build positive relationships and create opportunities to plan activities together that feel meaningful and enjoyable.
Thomas and Rachel also discussed how keyworkers support them to make choices, plan goals and build confidence in trying new experiences. Whether planning activities, spending time with friends or talking about future ambitions, these relationships help people feel more involved and in control of their own lives.
Another important point raised was the value of having different keyworkers, with each person bringing their own strengths, personality and ideas. Having a wider support network helps ensure support remains consistent, flexible and person-led.
Person-Led Support in Practice
The conversation highlights how strong relationships with keyworkers can positively support:
- Communicating & Choices: helping people express what matters to them
- How You Spend Your Time: planning enjoyable and meaningful activities
- Feeling Good: feeling listened to, safe and supported
- Relationships & Social Connections: building confidence through positive interactions and shared experiences
Most importantly, the discussion showed how keyworkers help people feel heard, valued and supported to live life on their own terms.
As Tina, our amazing Influencer and narrator, shared at the end of the video:
“They really do matter.”
