Rachel’s Day of Creativity at the Big Purple Funfest

In August 2025, Rachel from Coppice Close, one of our Liaise Influencers, experienced a day to remember at the Big Purple Funfest, an outdoor celebration organised by and for adults with a range of disabilities.

Accompanied by her support worker, Phil, Rachel was invited to exhibit her artwork, which gained attention after she shared it on her social media. She arrived a little apprehensive, unsure of what to expect. The event, however, proved to be a vibrant, well-attended affair that brought smiles, laughter, and applause.

From Quiet Beginnings to Confident Conversation

At first, Rachel was quiet and understandably overwhelmed by the throng of people and buzz of the day. Yet, she quickly found her footing. Within an hour, she was engaging confidently with members of the public, receiving enthusiastic praise and genuine interest in her creations.

By the time the event drew to a close, Rachel’s day had taken on a new tone: the uncertainty had given way to pride, joy, and a sense of achievement. Visitors expressed admiration for not just her art, but her courage in sharing it with the world.

Looking Back with Positivity and Ahead with Possibility

Rachel left the Funfest beaming, her day marked by warmth and positivity. What began as a nervous step into the unknown ended with her looking forward to potential orders for prints, opening up exciting possibilities ahead.

This success story reaffirms something we deeply believe at Liaise: that with the right support, individuals with learning disabilities can shine in every setting, sharing their creativity, confidence and genuine selves with the world.
