Positivity Through Community Activities: Sunny Building Confidence and Independence

Sunny recently enjoyed a positive and meaningful evening in the community, demonstrating the progress he is making in building confidence, independence and social opportunities through Positivity Through Community Activities.

During a waking night shift, Sunny spoke with staff about his plans for that evening. Together, they planned activities that felt meaningful and appropriate for someone his age. Sunny chose to walk with the staff to a local pub near Morrisons, where he enjoyed two drinks and played a game of pool. Staff supported Sunny in a way that respected his independence while remaining available if reassurance or support was needed.

Building Confidence in the Community

Sunny appeared relaxed and engaged throughout the visit, enjoying the environment in a way that felt natural. It was a positive example of Sunny accessing his local community and taking part in typical social activities for a young adult.

After leaving the pub, Sunny decided he would like to go to the cinema. Staff supported this choice and worked with him to ensure the activity was planned safely and positively. Sunny enjoyed the cinema experience and remained calm and settled throughout the evening.

Open Conversations and Person-Led Support

Because Sunny felt relaxed and comfortable, he was able to speak openly with the staff about how he had been feeling. He shared his thoughts about what helps him feel supported at night and discussed what he would like to see happen more often. Staff listened carefully and ensured Sunny’s views were respected and taken seriously.

Sunny explained that having more local evening activities helps him feel more settled and gives him something positive to look forward to. He also shared that spending time in the community could help him meet new people and build social connections.

Encouraging Independence and Safe Choices

As part of the evening, Sunny worked with staff to reflect on how he can continue to safely access the community. With their support, he helped put together a risk assessment for future community activities. This allowed Sunny to think about the types of activities he would like to do and how they can be carried out safely for both himself and the staff supporting him.

This approach ensured Sunny remained actively involved in decisions about his support, keeping his views, choices and preferences central to the planning process.

Positive Progress Through Community Engagement

The evening demonstrated the positive progress Sunny is making with the support of his staff team. Through Positivity Through Community Activities, Sunny was able to make his own choices, access his local community and communicate openly about his needs and preferences.

Staff supported Sunny in a way that promoted independence while ensuring he felt safe, respected and listened to. His engagement with staff, willingness to reflect on safety, and participation in community activities all demonstrate positive outcomes and highlight the meaningful progress he continues to make.
