Stability and Well-being Support: Michael’s Journey at Sansa House

We’re so grateful to Michael and his family for sharing his journey. Michael’s story is one of hope, resilience, and remarkable change. After many years of uncertainty and challenges, he has found a home at Sansa House where he can truly thrive.

A Fresh Start with the Right Support

With the right support in place, Michael’s life began to change. Long-standing restrictions were reviewed, his medication carefully adjusted, and for the first time in years, he started to walk confidently, enjoy life, and show real signs of happiness.

Background: Years of Challenges

Michael had lived with another provider since 2005, spending nearly two decades in care that no longer met his needs. Concerns about his safety and well-being led Hampshire to approach Liaise for support. In July 2024, Michael moved into Sansa House, beginning a new chapter in his life.

At the time, Michael was taking high doses of medication, including controlled drugs and frequent PRN use. He experienced around four serious incidents per day, had a long-term forehead injury from self-harming, could not go out, and had a heavily restricted diet. Being deaf, he also required tailored communication support, and several of his health needs were unmet.

Tailored Support Leads to Progress

Within weeks of arriving, the Sansa House team implemented:

  • A personalised medication reduction plan
  • Comprehensive health and physiotherapy support to improve mobility
  • Careful removal of long-standing restrictions
  • Adjustments to his communication environment
  • Introduction of positive daily routines to enhance autonomy and confidence

These person-led interventions allowed Michael to gradually regain independence, stability and well-being.

A Life Transformed

Over time, restrictions were lifted. Michael now goes out regularly, no longer requires controlled medication or physical interventions, and enjoys a varied diet. Most importantly, he is happy, settled, and the long-standing injury on his forehead has fully healed – a powerful sign of the progress he has made.

Michael’s mother reflected:

“I was thrilled when Phil said that Michael hadn’t needed PRN medication since January. The red mark on his forehead had been there for over 11 years, and now it’s gone. This really confirms that Michael is happy and settled at Sansa House. We’re so grateful for all that you do to help him live a full and healthy life.”
