Jean’s Mobility Journey

Jean has a history of mobility challenges, which frequently cause incidents such as falls. Read our previous blog on Jean’s Journey: From Bed-Bound to Dancing

On one particular day, an incident involving a fall led her to an eight-month stay at a hospital. Upon discharge, Jean was bed-bound, raising significant concerns among healthcare professionals about her future mobility. As such, the hospital staff recommended providing bed support until a community physiotherapist arrived to begin classes and help educate the staff. This continued with the community physio advising staff to refrain from providing mobility assistance until proper guidance was given. Despite the limitations and Jean’s growing frustration, she continued to demonstrate patience and determination to embark on her journey.

Over the months, Jean began to exceed all expectations in her progress. Starting with structured physio sessions, she steadily regained strength and mobility. She initially relied on her walking frame and gradually transitioned to using her wheelchair for longer distances. These consistent improvements marked significant milestones on her journey.

Jean’s progress has been transformational. She can now, on occasion, balance and walk without the use of her walking frame, allowing her to engage in activities outside her home, including visiting day centres and independently attending her appointments. A particularly heartwarming moment occurred during Halloween, when she participated in the celebration with great enthusiasm. Dressed up as a witch, she danced without the help of her walking frame or wheelchair. Her journey continues, but her remarkable progress already serves as an inspiration. We are hopeful that JW will achieve a full recovery in the near future.
