Charlotte was assessed earlier this year, and it was clear from the start that she would be a perfect fit for Cornfields. She came to visit the home a couple of weeks later, which also happened to be her birthday! Charlotte instantly loved the kitchen and her future bedroom, and by the end of her visit, she told us she would love to live here.

A month later, Charlotte joined us for afternoon tea. She chose hot dogs from the menu and happily chatted to the Cornfields staff, sharing lots about herself. After the visit, Charlotte and her family felt confident, she was ready to move in straight away.

Charlotte officially moved into Cornfields in Spring 2025.

Charlotte’s First Week

Charlotte hit the ground running in her first week, getting involved and embracing her new home:

• Monday – Charlotte had told us she wanted to go to the May Club disco to reconnect with some old school friends. That evening, she came home beaming, she’d seen two familiar faces and couldn’t wait to tell us all about it.
• Tuesday – Charlotte followed her regular routine and went out to buy her TV magazine from the local shop.
• Wednesday – She visited a local community centre with Mencap to explore their life skills sessions. She recognised even more friends there and has decided to join the group.
• Thursday – Charlotte tried out Active Life with another person we support, to see if she’d enjoy the trampolining club. She loved it and has been going most weeks ever since.

After such a full-on week, Charlotte enjoyed a relaxing weekend to rest and recharge.

The following week, Charlotte repeated all the activities and even visited Cornfield’s sister home, Cornview. She spent time meeting new people, stayed for tea and biscuits, and has since become a regular visitor.

Charlotte has settled in wonderfully. She’s confident about saying what she wants to do and when she wants to go out. The other two people we support at Cornfields are also pleased to welcome her, it’s clear she’s a great addition to the home.
