At Liaise, we believe meaningful progress starts with what matters most to the people we support. Through our Outcomes Pathway, we focus on helping individuals achieve personal goals that enhance their confidence, independence and overall wellbeing.
For Nelly, one of those goals was to feel more comfortable and confident around healthcare appointments.
Like many people, Nelly can feel anxious about attending clinical appointments, particularly when procedures such as blood tests are involved. Understanding this, her support team worked with her to identify opportunities that could help make healthcare settings feel less overwhelming and more familiar.
Recently, Nelly attended a Learning Disability Meet and Greet event, designed to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where people could meet healthcare professionals, learn more about local services and ask questions about their health.
The event allowed Nelly to connect with clinicians outside of a formal appointment setting. She spent time learning about the role of healthcare professionals, discussing the importance of health checks, and becoming more familiar with the equipment that may be used during appointments. Being able to explore these aspects in a supportive environment helped make future healthcare visits feel less daunting.
While this may seem like a small step, it represents meaningful progress towards a goal that is important to Nelly. By gaining a better understanding of healthcare services and building positive relationships with clinicians, she is developing the confidence to engage more actively in her own health and wellbeing.
At Liaise, we know that outcomes look different for everyone. For some people, success might mean securing employment or learning a new skill. For others, like Nelly, it can be about overcoming personal barriers and building confidence in everyday situations that support a healthier and more independent life.
We are incredibly proud of Nelly’s progress and look forward to supporting her as she continues to build confidence and take positive steps towards achieving her goals.
